    They got thru most of the surgery before they had to stop, but the neuro monitoring that the team does every 3 minutes throughout the surgery changed suddenly indicating his spinal cord needed a break. So, they put one rod in to stabilize his spine and closed the incision. They are putting in a central line for more meds and fluids. They were going to try to wake him up just enough to see if he could move his arm and his legs. Then he will go to ICU for at least 3 days and they will try surgery again next Thursday.

    They had to stop the surgery bc of issues with his spinal nerves responding which we knew could happen. They couldn't finish, but he's been under anesthesia for 9 hours. Will know more in a little bit when surgeon talks to us. Will update you all then. Stacey Rumsey

    My tiny little hero grandson Embry who is twelve years old, 4 ft tall and only 48#. This crazy, funny, incredibly strong and brave boy who calls me Mimi is finally having his big spine surgery, a vertebral column resection, Thursday morning at Riley in Indianapolis. We have tried everything to get him to grow and gain weight for the past 4 years, but he's only gained about 4 or 5 pounds. He has been through 3 open heart surgeries and so many more random surgeries and hospitalizations, but has had several really healthy years that we are so grateful for. This surgery is going to take about 8 hours, maybe more, and is going to be very, very painful with a looooonnng recovery. He will have an incision from the back of his head down most of his spine. They will remove parts of vertebrae and replace with bone from the bone bank and they will insert cages, rods and screws on each vertebra from his neck down to the bottom of his thoracic spine. They will recycle his own blood that is lost so he may or may not need a transfusion. They will cut a couple of nerve roots and monitor how his spinal nerves are responding throughout the surgery. If need be due to spinal cord/nerve issues or BP/ heart issues, they will pause the surgery and give him a break. If that happens three times, they will stop surgery, close the incision and wait a week or so before trying again. This is a huge, scary surgery with a lot of risks and we are all anxious. He has been through worse and is certainly a miracle in so many ways, and we thank God for what he has brought Embry through. We anticipate up to 2 weeks in the hospital at Riley before the long road to recovery continues at home. We'll leave town tomorrow night and arrive at Riley Thursday morning at 5:45. We appreciate all of your prayers for this amazing kid, all of our families and his surgical team and care teams as we go through this with him.

    God brought me through my surgeries, and although walking was a little hard in the beginning, there has been a slow improvement, thanks to God as well as my wife at my side. Please continue to pray for a complete healing.

    rayer warriors help us pray, my sister Tonnie just got results on her lung biopsy and it is Cancer. She will have a lung capacity test Monday to see if her lungs can handle the surgery, and she also meets Wednesday with Radiation doctor, if surgery is done it will be in St. Louis, if they are able to remove it, the doctor said she will be Cancer free. Just standing with her and all family GODS WILL be done, in JESUS mighty name, amen. Thank you all… Glenda
