Go Glow & Grow

Sam Yeakle Life Devotions

“As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.” John 9:4 NIV

When my family and I started out in the ministry there was three; my wife, my daughter, and me.  We moved to our first ministry station right after college only to be called to “go” to a new position in another state within one year; within nine months in that position we were, once again, faced with a “going” that was in a sense like God pushing us out of our “eagles’ nest.”

God said, “Go, prepared to be placed where I need you to “glow” as light and you will “grow” as you do my will.

At that time in our “going,” God chose to position us to serve Him in feeding His sheep as a first full-time pastor in that same state. During that time, our second child was born.  Now we were a family of four.

As the family would be getting ready to leave the house, I would commission them with this word of exhortation: “Let’s go, glow, and grow.”  I had explained to them that we should “go”, as Jesus had taught us in Matthew 28:19.  Then in Matthew 5:14a NIV,  Jesus told his disciples, “You are the light of the world.” Therefore, we were to “glow” in the darkness of the world, so others could see the light of Christ.  According to Ephesians 4:15 NIV, “Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will “grow” to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ”, we would “grow”.

Now my children are grown, my grandchildren are growing, and we now have a great-grand daughter. We have planted gospel seeds in many different states in this our nation, but, I know that the call of Dimples and I, deep in our heart, is to missions. The call is to our nation, the USA and specifically this Evansville and tri-state area. We have always been about going, glowing, and growing.  I will answer the call to go.  I will shine the Light.  I will trust the Word that I will grow.  Can you say, “I will?”

Who’s in your path today that God has placed there for you to have a gospel conversation? I do not mind being accused of being zealous. It is better than being silent. On that day, when I meet my Savior, I want to hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things..” Matt. 25:21a NIV

I leave you with this thought to pass on to your family and friends; the hour is soon to be upon us that we will not be able to work. So, what’s in your heart? Is the love of the one who died for you, enough to get you up out of your usual to change? Enough to go with the light of His word and thereby grow in His likeness and thereby to grow His kingdom as He has commissioned us?

Will you go, glow, and grow with me?

Pray This…

Lord of the harvest, send out workers into your harvest field. First, oh Lord, help me to overcome any obstacle in my life for me to be ready to go with the glow of the light of Christ in me and grow in His likeness and see the kingdom grow through my obedience to His command. Use me. I say like Samuel of old “Speak, for your servant is listening.” 1 Samuel 3:10 NIV IN JESUS NAME! AMEN!
